About The Class

When: Thursdays, April 25-May 30, 4:30-6:00pm

Do you love to write, but struggle to find the time to make real progress in the midst of busy life? Do you have lots of creative ideas, but aren’t sure where to start? Are you writing a story now and wish you could get feedback on it? This class is a weekly time and place to meet with other writers and write, to get the motivation and support you need to reach your writing goals, to be guided by an experienced teacher and writer.

About Sarah

Sarah is passionate about writing and her enjoyment for it is contagious. She allows students to write about topics that matter to them and moves at the student’s pace, teaching them skills in the process. She has inspired the writing of hundreds of students across Portland in after-school writer’s workshops, summer camps, university classes, and online. She is a writer and a writing teacher with a masters degree in education and over 25 years of teaching experience.

What You Can Expect

  • Learn in-person in a supportive, relaxed group setting.
  • Write the stories you want to write.
  • Improve your skills and get inspired through discussions and short lessons about writing that you can apply to your own story.

What Makes This Class Different

Finally you have time and space to write what YOU want to write. In this class, you are in the driver’s seat with your work and have the freedom to pursue your own ideas with as much guidance as you would like. Students enter a writing environment that is authentic and able to address the challenges that writers face in the real world of writing, guided by an experienced teacher and writer. The majority of class time is spent writing. There is also time each week to share writing and receive feedback from the other writers, helping you hone your writing skills and keep your momentum. Each class group becomes a supportive community, a writer’s workshop.

What You Will Gain

This class is a safe haven outside of the pressures and fast pace of life where you can drop into the timeless space of focus and creativity and write. You will gain momentum on your creative stories and improve your skills. Writing is often a solitary act, and writing a group can bring connection and support that adds joy and productivity to the process. You can set your own goals and reach them.
