About Sarah

Sarah Pemberton is a teacher, writer and advocate for creativity and authenticity. Inspired by one of her own elementary teachers, she became hooked on writing as a way to find her voice and experience her life more fully. In her personal life, writing became an outlet for self expression; it was a catalyst for healing and a creative tool for self discovery.

Through her years teaching elementary education, she recognized a parallel between her own self exploration, confidence and passion for writing and her students growing excitement for writing as well. Sarah realized, there is always room for growth – no matter the age or where you are in life – when provided with the space to do so. Sarah shares her knowledge of writing as an academic skill and powerful tool for personal growth and self-expression.

Her mission is to create space, for youth and adults alike, to connect with their core self though the transformative tool of writing. By teaching writing skills in a supportive atmosphere, she guides her students in building a sense of confidence with writing that crosses into all academic areas and leaves them with a sense of capability.

For 13 years, Sarah taught in the Portland School District, after obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a Masters degree in Elementary Education. Additionally, she taught English Conversation and American Culture to Japanese students for over two decades, as well as Public Speaking and Composition Writing to students in China, both through Portland State University. On top of her teaching, she became a leader and participant within the Amherst Writers and Artists group. Her extensive experience allows her to integrate a holistic approach that not only strengthens writing skills, but impacts personal growth and self embodiment as well.

Driven by her love for writing and empowering others, Sarah founded the Write Now! Program in 2012. The program aims to help others discover the joy of writing in an expansive and nurturing environment, allowing beginner and experienced writers to flourish. Write Now! offers after-school writing workshops, summer camps, tutoring, and  adult writing groups – creating opportunity for people to connect, explore, and grow with their academic and authentic selves.
