After-School Writer’s Workshops

Creative Writer’s Workshop
About the Writer’s Workshop:
In the Write Now! Writer’s Workshop, students get to write their stories, develop ideas, hash out challenges and receive feedback in a supportive group with the guidance of an experienced teacher and writer. This is the place for your child to develop their love for writing and their confidence in their writing voice.
Often, the writing students do in school is structured by the teacher, but in this class your child will have time and space to write what they want to write, alongside other students who are equally engaged. Writing in a group can motivate and inspire: sharing immediately with an authentic audience is motivating; hearing what others are writing can spark ideas; receiving positive feedback helps students know what they are doing well and encourages.
Because writing reaches into all content areas and levels of education, when your child trusts their ideas and their ability to communicate them in writing, they will be better equipped to navigate the writing tasks of life. Especially in this new world that includes AI. There is no better time to develop confidence in writing than now.

What you can expect:
- A supportive, small-group setting (limited to 10 students)
- A predictable structure each week: mini-lesson and time to talk about craft, 30 minutes of writing time, an opportunity to share and give compliments
- 30 minutes or more of uninterrupted time to write
- An opportunity each class session to share what you wrote (always optional) and receive feedback
What you will gain:
- Time – This class is a time and place to step outside of the pressures of life and drop into timeless focus to write.
- Momentum – You will gain momentum on your story as the weeks progress.
- Learning – Each week we will discuss a specific tool or skill for strong writing. You will build your skills as you write.
- Community – Writing is often a solitary act, and writing in a group can bring connection and support that adds joy and productivity to the process.
- Accomplishment – You can set your own goals and reach them.
