Academic Coaching

Your teen is capable. They just need the right tools to show it.

End the overwhelm and help your teen build the skills, confidence, and independence they need for high school, college and life.

I help high school students with ADD/ADHD and other challenges to do school independently and graduate with:

  • less tension and stress
  • more confidence
  • the skills to succeed in college and life.

I do this through academic coaching. What is academic coaching? I help students build important skills like staying organized, studying, breaking big projects into smaller steps, writing essays and communicating with adults. These skills give them the foundation to do well in high school and to be prepared for college and independence. I’ve created a step-by-step plan that gives support and helps them improve their school life right now, so that they experience confidence and success. I draw on my decades of experience as a classroom teacher, a writing teacher and a life-coach (and a mom of teens) to meet your child where they are and help them grow.

Your Teen is Capable – But School Doesn’t Show It

If you’re here, chances are your teen is bright and capable but struggling to keep up. You may have a child who:

  • Forgets assignments or misses deadlines, even when they know the material.
  • Gets overwhelmed by big projects and doesn’t know how to start.
  • Struggles with reading or writing that takes much longer than it should.
  • Has ADHD, ADD, or dyslexia that makes focus, organization, or schoolwork harder.
  • Spends hours on homework, but still falls behind, or is starting to avoid it all.

And meanwhile, you may be:

  • Constantly reminding them about schoolwork.
  • Feeling like the “homework police” every night.
  • Wondering how they’ll ever be ready for college or independence if things don’t change.

I Understand Students Who Learn Differently

I’ve spent over two and a half decades teaching in classrooms, groups and 1:1, and I’ve worked with students who learn differently—including those with ADHD, ADD, and dyslexia. I know the frustration of watching a capable teen get labeled as “lazy” or “unmotivated,” when really, they just need the right support and strategies.

My approach combines executive function coaching, academic skill-building, and confidence-building so your teen can:

  • Break down assignments into manageable steps.
  • Learn systems to stay organized and on top of deadlines.
  • Develop study habits and strategies that actually work for their learning style.
  • Express themselves in writing.
  • Begin to feel more capable, independent, and confident.

The Path to Success: The Foundations Program

Every teen is different, but one thing is the same: when they have the right tools and support, they can succeed. The Foundations Program includes structure and support so that your child can move forward much more quickly than they would on their own. The program is broken into 3 stages:

  • Get Ready to Learn
  • Get Work Done on Time
  • Move Toward Independence

I provide a combination of checklists and templates that make tasks visual and clear along with 1:1 coaching and academic sessions to meet your child’s individual needs.

What We Focus On Together

  • Organization that sticks — set up routines and systems that support focus and clarity
  • Time management strategies — so deadlines stop sneaking up.
  • Breaking down big tasks — essays, projects, and studying feel doable instead of overwhelming.
  • Independent learning habits — study skills that increase learning in high school, college, and future jobs
  • Confidence & calm — both for your teen and for you as a parent.

Program Structure

My programs run in 12-week sessions to give teens enough time to practice new skills and see real change.

You can choose the option that fits your family’s needs:

  1. One Session per Week
    • Perfect for families looking for steady support and skill-building.
    • Focused check-ins to keep your teen accountable, organized, and moving forward.
  2. Two Sessions per Week
    • Best for teens who are falling behind or need more hands-on structure.
    • Extra support means we can tackle both long-term skills and day-to-day school challenges.

Why 12 Weeks?

Real growth takes time. A 12-week program gives your teen the consistency they need to practice, build habits, and start experiencing wins that boost their confidence. Parents often say they notice less stress and more independence at home within just a few weeks.

The Next Step

We’ll start with a free parent call to talk about your teen, your goals, and which option is the best fit. I want to hear about the challenges you are facing and work with you to meet them before they grow even bigger. I am committed to your child’s growth as they build their skills, confidence and independence.

What Parents Say

  • “My son graduated high school because of you. Now he is taking classes at PCC and is liking them. Your name comes up around the Thanksgiving table when we say what we are grateful for. Thank you.”
  • “My daughter used to hate writing and struggled to manage her classes. Now she is passionate about creative writing and is able to keep up with online school all on her own.”
  • “I finally feel good!”
  • When I would check in with him he would say, ‘Oh I’m working on that. I finished that. I’m almost done with that.’ But after more and more digging I’d find out that none of that was true. And it’s not like he was completely hiding things from me. I think he had a false sense of where he was in his classes. He wasn’t getting the support he was used to at school. You, Sarah, and one other teacher were the only people he trusted to help him. But the other teacher didn’t have the time to really meet with him. You made all the difference.

I’ll meet you where the rubber meets the road. With guidance, structure and skills, your child will soon be in the driver’s seat of their life.
